• Established in 1971, the International Giraffe Appreciation Society (IGASI) was the first international giraffe appreciation society in the world, and as such, the first to recognize the giraffe as a symbol of human aspirations.

• At an event in the early 1980’s, the Oakland Zoo named a newborn giraffe IGASI, after the acronym for the International Giraffe Appreciation Society, Inc.

• Has a unique induction process typically only seen by members and inductees.

• The International Giraffe Appreciation Society promotes the rights of giraffes to walk freely, including in nature reserves.

• IGASI has more than 3,000 members in more than 30 countries, including the Philippines, China, Israel, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, Russia, Kenya, Argentina, and Brazil.
